Adrian Moreira Presentations Reflections

Adrian Moreira      These last presentations given by my classmates were based on the most important problems we are facing today. Essential current-day issues were addressed such as racism, education, and the pandemic/healthcare. I came out with a more grounded perspective on reality and how these issues have shaped and affected us, along with a heightened awareness of my surroundings.       Group three presented first. This group tackled the racism dilemma speaking on how it has been a problem in history and remains a problem to this day. From deeply engraved racism with the confederacy that was attempted to be hidden by the U.S educational system, to current-day police brutality being challenged by the resisting force of the Black Lives Matter movement. Historical information given to us on slavery had been distorted in attempts to keep a good face on America. The group also mentioned how racism towards Asians is becoming more prominent due to belie...

Group 2 Reflections (Project 2)

Anthony Volquez-Colon The presentations this time around was more of issues we have in and as a society.   Problems that the world is facing still till this day and age.   The three major issues this class presented on was Racism, Pandemic/Healthcare background, and Education.   I was very eager to work on this project because, even though they are sensitive topics to some, I believe we should talk about it and raise awareness.   I believe this project was a great way in educating ourselves in many important issues that the world is facing today. The first one to start was Group 3.   Their presentation was about the serious issue of Racism, the history and the current issues.   Group 3 did an amazing job showing how deep racism has been rooted into the US, a great example is the history they taught us with the Confederacy.   I found it so interesting the way they showed how our educational system had tried to rewrite the narrative of how ho...

Group reflections kisha zuniga

Kisha Zuniga 03/14/2021 Speech  Professor Sinkoff During the Group presentations I learned more about race and education. There was new information that I learned from the other groups such as race. All over the world, race is used by others to assign meaning to the way you look people will use physical characteristics like nose shape, eye shape, hair texture and most infamously, skin color to categorize race. Race isn’t a tangible concept, Social Construction Theory determines it’s more of a social idea created by institutions in society, meaning that it is created by society and is constantly changed. The notion of race is perpetuated and conserved, and therefore, must be changed by adjusting society’s preconceptions about race, institution’s structure and laws that are negatively based on race, and how education and awareness about race can create positive change. Especially here in the United States, but also in other countries around the world, certain races are placed in soci...

Group Presentation Review

Group Presentation Review         Julian Barriento   In our recent presentations we discussed and learned more about specific major problems we have had in the world, these problems being racism, education and Covid.  Group 3 started first with racism and the struggles black people have endured from confederacy. They also mentioned how racism against asians has increased due to the pandemic. Group 3 did a good job in conveying how serious of a matter racism is and how bad it has truley gotten, mentioning the murder of Trayvon Martin and the tragedy of George Floyd. They also talked about the black lives matter movement and why it is so important.   Group 2 was next, which is my group, and our topic was covid. We talked about how we can prevent getting or spreading covid, keep a stafe distance, wash your hands. Then we talked about how Covid has affected countries and how those countries have handled the pandemic. We also mentioned t...

Presentation Review by Zajah Green

Once more I am here to share my review about the presentations that have been shared in my speech class. I was pleasantly surprised by how well each group delivered their topic. Of course, there were things that I would have liked to be done differently. However, I believe that each group presented to the best of their ability. A heavy topic like racism and relatable topics such as education and the pandemic were discussed.             The first group presented on the topic of racism.   They discussed things such as the BLM (Black Lives Matter) movement, touched on injustices against African Americans through the years, and more. Group one spoke about and gave information on the BLM movement. They mentioned how it was a localized movement that was peacefully protesting against incidents of police brutality and all racially influenced violence against African American people. I, as an African American woman, app...

Presentation Review

Samira Gonzalez 3/15/21          I believe all the groups did an amazing job at presenting and explaining their information. Throughout all the group's presentations, I learned a lot about everything going on in the world right now including racism, the pandemic/healthcare, and the educational system.      Group 3 were the very first ones to present and started off with their topic about racism. They talked about the civil rights movement and explained how it was a big part of history for racism. They mentioned how it was a big struggle for Black Americans to gain equal rights under the law in the United States. They also gave an example about Emmet Till and how he was kidnapped, beaten, and shot in the head just for being accused of whistling at Carolyn Bryant. They also talked about Black Lives Matter which is a decentralized political and social movement protesting incidents of police brutality and all racially motivated violence against black ...

Review of Presentations

SPC Presentations Blog Post Throughout the presentations that were recently done in our class I learned a lot. We spoke about, learned about, and were taught about very difficult topics throughout them. Topics such as racism, the COVID pandemic, difficulties in education, etc. These are things that may be hard to talk about, yet they hold a very high importance due to the fact that we are all witnesses to these events. The group that presented about racism brought up an interesting point. They mentioned that racism is a worldwide thing and some continents even going as far as to commit racism-fueled atrocities. A perfect example of this was Nazi Germany in the 20 th century. Fueled by anger and hate, Germany’s leaders essentially murdered people due to their race, disabilities, skin color, etc. Even today there are people in concentration camps within China, mostly consisting of Muslims. This is just one small example of the many interesting and important things I learned thro...
